TALK: CHILDREN OF THE PLUMED SERPENT: ART AND RITUAL IN MEXICO’S LATE ANTIQUITY
APR 14 | 2 PM
Dr. John Pohl, co-curator of Children of the Plumed Serpent, discusses the ancient Nahua, Mixtec, and Zapotec civilizations of southern Mexico that shows that the fall of the Aztec Empire in 1521 signaled the rise of another civilization whose legacy survives to this day.

EXHIBITION FILM SERIES: ALICE AND OTHER LOST GIRLS IN FANTASTIC WORLDS

APR 6–7, 14 | TIMES VARY 
In conjunction with the exhibition In Wonderland, LACMA is screening a series of mind-bending fairy tales and fantasies inspired by Lewis Carroll’s “Alice” stories, from the rarely seen cult film Valerie and Her Week of Wonders to the universally beloved Disney classic to Lou Bunin’s long-unavailable puppet production.

FILM INDEPENDENT AT LACMA: MY WAY

APR 13 | 7:30 PM
Film Independent at LACMA presents the U.S. premiere of My Way (2011), directed by Kang Je-gyu and starring Jang Dong-gun and Joe Odagiri. The film centers on the intense competition between two men—one is Korean and the other is Japanese—that begins in childhood and follows them into battle in World War II, as both end up fighting for the Japanese Imperial Army.

FILM INDEPENDENT AT LACMA: 100 YEARS OF PARAMOUNT PICTURES: ANIMATION

APR 26 | 7:30 PM
The April edition of the celebration of Paramount Pictures focuses on the studio’s landmark collection of animation. We’ll screen the Oscar-nominated South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut (1999), written and directed by—and featuring the voices of—South Park series creators Matt Parker and Trey Stone, followed by a group of animated short classics from Paramount’s golden era.
